It was the night before the first day of the festival, around 9pm in Nyagatare. Dana and I had stopped by the venue for the women's conference and then found ourselves once again at the festival field. Though it was dark, all kinds of work was happening to get the stage and sound system ready for the next day. We had had trouble with our equipment being allowed to pass into Rwanda and setup was running late. There were many men working, and we hung around for a while talking. An observer mentioned to me that it would be a good idea for Dana to pray a blessing on these hard workers. It was a great idea and so soon the men gathered around while Dana stood on an equipment box to see them all. But…He didn't pray. He paused, and then asked the men if they each had a relationship with Jesus and the assurance that they would be in heaven with Him.
The available lighting was an amber color, making the scene incredibly picturesque. Those of us on the team standing around felt a quick moment of astonishment that Dana was about to share the Gospel, but then each of us smiled to him/herself knowingly.
You see for someone with the heart of an evangelist, it doesn't matter so much what the day was like or how tired they feel. There is a compelling fire that burns inside.
Knowing that, it may not surprise you to hear that this morning at the Fire conference, Corey gave an alter call at the end of his message. Sounds pretty standard, right? Except for the fact that this conference is specifically for pastors and leaders! Over 100 people gave their lives to Christ this morning.
And that pretty much sums up why we are here.
