Gisenyi, Rwanda is located in the northeast corner of Rwanda, sitting on the shore of Lake Kivu and boardering The Democractic Republic of Congo. According the 2009 census, Gisenyi's Population is just larger than 100,000 people. Lake Kivu is a popular destination for the people of Rwanda at 55 miles in length and 30 miles in width and 1,500 feet deep Lake Kivu is the 18th deepest lake in the world. This expansive depth is caused by volcanic activity in the area that has formed the Virunga Mountain range. The Virunga Mountains is home to the Rwandan Gorillas, and was featured in the 1988 Film about Dian Fossey "Gorilla's in the Mist". The Volcanoes National Park is considered by most as the greatest place to see Gorilla's in all of Africa.
